Part Day Head Start

Family must meet Federal Income Guidelines for acceptance into the program. A typical day begins at 9 am and operates until 1:50 pm. The program operates from September until June and is available for children between the ages of 3-5 years of age as are all of the following programs. Families have no fees in this program. Each family will have a Family Worker who will develop a relationship with the family as a case manager. Family Partnership Plans and home visits will be accomplished yearly. Referrals to agencies to assist families will be offered.

Federal Head Start

This program is a full day service completely funded by Head Start. No fee. See above for services. Hours are 7:30 am -5:30 pm for full day (7:30 am-6:00 pm only at Jamie A. Hulley) according to parents’ working hours.

Extended Day (State) Head Start

This is a full day/full year program. The family will need to meet Federal Income Guidelines for acceptance. The parent(s) or guardian may be in the workforce or in school/training. A fee is assessed based on a sliding fee scale. Each family will have a year-round Family Worker who will develop a relationship with the family as a case manager. Family Partnership Plans and home visits will be accomplished yearly. Referrals to agencies to assist families will be offered.

Wrap-Around Head Start

These classrooms are operated as Head Start classrooms with the early morning hours, late afternoon hours, and summer hours funded by Department of Social Services, State of Connecticut. These services are the same as Extended Day with the exception of no Family Worker in the summer months. Any crisis or concern in the summer months needs to be brought to the attention of the site manager. A fee is assessed based on a sliding fee scale.

School Readiness Wrap Around

This extended day School Readiness funding is to allow a Head Start family a full day/full year program. A fee is assessed based on a sliding fee scale. See below.

School Readiness

This program is funded by the Department of Education, State of Connecticut funding, and is available for Bridgeport residents only. Families must have income within 75% of the state median income. Parent(s) or guardian may be in the workforce or in school. A fee is assessed based on family income % of state median income. Hours are 7:30 am-5:30 pm (6:00 am-6:00 pm only at Jamie A. Hulley) according to parents’ working hours. A full year Outreach Worker is assigned to each School Readiness family for the purpose of providing emergency and education-related referrals, promoting family engagement, and following up on attendance concerns.

Day Care/Infant and Toddler

This full day/full year program is for working parents or parents attending school. There is a sliding scale fee assigned to families. A full year Outreach Worker is assigned to each Day Care/Infant and Toddler family for the purpose of providing emergency and education-related referrals, promoting family engagement, and following up on attendance concerns. This program accepts children between the ages of 6 weeks – 3 years of age.

Tender Loving Child Care Program – (T.L.C.C.)

This program is designed for children who have suffered the effects of abuse and/or neglect and are open cases through the Department of Children and Families. A referral from the DCF caseworker is required for possible acceptance into this program. A family advocate case manager provides monthly home visits, referrals, and coordination between ABCD and DCF. Families are mandated to become involved through attending family workshops, etc. These families have no fee. Transportation is provided if necessary. Therapeutic Child Care is provided through the employment of a MSW Clinician. Team members include psychological consultant, teaching staff, family advocate and supervisory staff.

Early Head Start Full Day

This program provides services for children ages 6 months – 3 years of age. Families must meet Federal Income Guidelines for acceptance into the program. Children can referred by Nurturing Families or Teen Parent Programs. A Family Worker is assigned to each family. There is a sliding fee assigned to families based on extended day provided by DSS funding.

Early Head Start School Day

This program provides services for children ages 6 months – 3 years of age. Families must meet Federal Income Guidelines for acceptance into the program. Children can referred by Nurturing Families or Teen Parent Programs. A Family Worker is assigned to each family. This is a free program. Hours are 9:00am-3pm

Home Based Early Head Start

The Early Head Start Home Based Program option supports children and their families through home visits and group socialization experiences. Early Head Start home visits provide comprehensive services to support and strengthen the relationship between infants, toddlers and their parents.

Open Door Policy

A.B.C.D. Inc. Early Learning Division operates under the Open Door Policy for the families who we serve. A family member, after they have complied with our security regulations, is welcomed into our centers to observe their child, foster child, or grandchild. They may come to the center whenever they choose during our operating hours. If they would like to meet with a staff member or the site manager we request that they call for an appointment
